Financial Literacy with Chudier Joseph

Image
Source: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/money-worries-conceptual-artwork-smetek.html Chudier Joseph is a young South Sudanese - American man focusing on the financial literacy of his fellow Americans and especially his South Sudanese community. As a people, we come from a war-torn country that never truly developed. We are still in the developmental stages. For many years, South Sudanese parents didn't get the opportunity to be financially independent or literate leading to their children not having the much-needed knowledge for their future. What Chudier, does is expose our people to a different reality out there financially. There is an abundant amount of wealth of information when it comes to this industry. He has the knowledge and connections to dissect the information to be used in a personal matter.  As the upcoming young generation, we need to be equipped with this knowledge because our lives depend on it. We need to start reading, investing, meeting and p

South Sudanese - Canadian Author: Acai Louis Kuol Arop

Acai Louis Kuol Arop, Author. Acai is a South Sudanese - Canadian author based in Edmonton, Alberta. She writes based on contemporary issues in short stories format. She's an upcoming and rising South Sudanese writer in an industry that's male-dominated it is nice to see women get in the industry and write for themselves and other women. I got the opportunity to read a short story by Acai, it's called '' Broken Pieces.'' It is amazing.  Acai did an excellent job narrating and speaking from the viewpoint of the main character. She beautifully narrates the challenges of love and relationships from a woman's perspective. She wrote that story for women. She's highly talented and I hope to see more work from her in the future. Keep an eye out for her upcoming new work. I will make sure to keep you guys updated. Follow her below on her website and social media account. Facebook page: https://www.fac

NAKIA love interest of King T'CHALLA: The Portrayal of Dark Skinned Women in Black Panther

Image
chadwick Boseman is Black Panther and King T'Challa and Nakia as in Lupita Nyong'O is the love interest of the King. In most films, the love interest is always a light skinned or racially ambiguous woman for the black man. It's very rare to see a sister as dark skinned as Lupita Nyong'O playing a love interest for the most powerful King in a Kingdom such as Wakanda and for a Hollywood blockbuster, such as Black Panther. In reality, Wakanda is a fictional reality and no one should base their whole identity on a movie. But representation matters. Young, dark-skinned girls and women will watch and will be validated. To see someone the same complexion as you in a place of power even if it's fictional can shift mindsets and shift paradigms. For a second you are given an alternative to the toxic narratives, stereotyping, downgrading and devaluing of your complexion and top of that mixed with gender is an intersectional problem. In Black Panther, dark-skinned people

From #WAKANDA TO #SOUTHSUDAN: Tribalism and Greed

Image
Here I am, in a theatre in Calgary, watching the film with good friends on February 17, 2018.  Two weeks prior to the film being released I was truly excited to see it when I had the opportunity to see it. I am a fan of movies with a strong cast and usually movies centred on history and ancient folklore. When I realize that the ''Black Panther'' was coming out and that I would be represented I was extremely excited. All my social media friends have seen the excitement. The film didn't disappoint. All the topics of tribalism, greed, abandonment, colonized mentalities and futuristic Africa were addressed in a way that is empowering for African people and their descendants in the diaspora.  The topic and generational pain surrounding slavery and African American people were addressed in a powerful way. In this post, I will discuss the themes of tribalism, greed, generational wounds occurred as a result of slavery and a futuristic South Sudan (a homage to Lupita
